Atonement began on March 8, 1964 as a mission congregation of the ALC with 229 charter members. On March 15, 1964 the church was dedicated and a new parsonage was built on the church property in 1967. The church underwent a refinancing program in 1970 with the sale of Loan Certificates which enabled the church to pay the American Mission in full.
